Tough Love? Dad Turns In Son After BB Gun Robberies

The father of an 18-year-old man who robbed one business and attempted to rob another turned in his son Monday evening, said Lt. Marco Garmo with the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department Imperial Beach substation.

The father of 18-year-old Tyler Comas told the Sheriff’s Department he first became aware of the robberies after he heard a helicopter broadcasting a description of his son.

Comas’ mother sent him to stay with his father and was arrested a day later, Garmo said.

“He noticed that might fit the description of his kid so we did a report and he was positively ID’d by the nail salon and pharmacy and we ended up locating the gun that was a BB gun that was used,” Garmo said.

Around 5:50 p.m., the man attempted to rob J&T Nails in the 600 block of 9th Street but was unsuccessful.

A few minutes later he stole $169 from Imperial Beach Pharmacy in the 700 block of State Route 75.

The man was taken into custody around 7:45 p.m. in the 700 block of 5th Street and charged with robbery and attempted robbery.

In an unrelated third armed robbery in less than an hour, two men stole marijuana, cash and a cell phone from two people from a medical marijuana cooperative making a delivery.
